Toshiko Sato had never been the sentimental type...well, to be honest she had always been the sentimental type but she hid it well. And the people she cared about most in the world surrounded her every day. She never had much family to speak of, never had many friends, never had much time. She pushed through school, graduating early, going on to university, graduating with honors and degrees upon degrees. She had wasted her best years in the library with nothing but musty old books for comfort. And then Torchwood happened.

He was her guardian angel, greatcoat billowing out from him as he stood illuminated in the doorway of her cell. God he had been pretentious even then, even rescuing her from jail. But to her he'd always be her angel, her savior, the best boss she had ever had. He took her from the worst possible scenario and gave her a purpose. He gave them all a purpose.

She was the first hire for the new Torchwood 3, Jack's Torchwood. That's how she always thought of it, like they couldn't exist without one another. Jack was Torchwood and Torchwood was Jack. And then he left to go find his doctor and suddenly it wasn't Jack's Torchwood anymore. It was Gwen's, and Owen's, and Ianto's, and even hers. It belonged to them and they belonged to it.

Owen was the next to be hired. He had walked in his first day all scowls and demands. He called Tosh the secretary. As if. And just to show him who she was she had frozen all of his accounts. No credit cards, no cash, nothing. He had returned the following day carrying two cups of coffee. He set one down on her desk without a word and sauntered down to the medical bay. It was on that day that Toshiko had decided that 1) she was absolutely infatuated with Owen Harper and 2) that victory coffee did indeed taste sweeter.

Ianto had followed after Owen all sharp suits and sweet smiles. Tosh had instantly taken him under her wing. They would talk about anything and everything during their early morning rituals. And they always had movie nights. They'd curl up on Tosh's couch and watch old movies until the early morning. Then Ianto would kiss her forehead and walk home in solitude. She always thought he was too young to always be so sad and alone.

Last but not least, there was Gwen. Tosh had been leery of her from the beginning because their little group had been working out so well. The four of them worked well together and although Tosh hated to admit it, Gwen did add something to the team. Her humility, her bubbly personality, her heart. Gwen gave their team the added something extra that made them all human again, made them all feel and understand better than they ever had.

And Suzie of course. How could she have forgotten Suzie? Suzie who now resides in the Torchwood cryogenics unit, where she'll be soon. They'll put her in the freezer, tell what little family she has left that there was an accident, tell them that her body wasn't recovered, and then they'll put her whole big life into one teeny, tiny box. Not enough box to hold all of her memories, all of her thoughts, her ideas, her inventions. A box can't tell you that a person built an entire impenitrible security system for a top secret alien hunting organization, and it sure has hell can't tell you that with all of her knowledge and all of her wit that she couldn't save the man she loved. A box can't tell you any of that, but that's all she is now.

And Owen. Oh God Owen. Tosh blinks back the tears. I'm sorry. I...I couldn't save you and I am so sorry. God I love you. I know you probably get tired of hearing that but I do. Always have.

She said her final goodbyes to the one person who she had loved, truly, with whole heart. And then there was Jack. Her guardian angel, her savior, her everything. He held her, mumbled that it would be okay. Even as the words left his mouth he didn't believe them, that's okay though, because she didn't either. She looked up into his tear streaked face and smiled, she was going home. And when she arrives there'd be Owen and Suzie. And one day, a day far from now there'd be Gwen and her Ianto. And maybe, just maybe one day there'd be Jack. Her guardian angel, her savior, her everything.

The End.

I don't mean to make you cry.
But I'm glad you liked it at least.
An Owen smile will make you feel better.
